Bayern Benam Olympiakos 3:0

Bayern won 3:0 against an apathetic Olympiacos, but left the winning goals late in the game. Thomas Müller was FCB’s decisive man.

First half: domination without results

Bayern quickly took control of the match and started their usual possession game as they pushed Olympiacos back into their own half.

Despite dominating play, the Bavarians had no clear scoring opportunities and only managed to get their first corner of the match in the 19′. Meanwhile, Manuel Neuer had been kept on his toes with Olympiacos making three attempts on goal.

Die Roten came close to opening the score when Robert Lewandowski’s header from the far post was blocked off of the line after a searching Xabi Alonso free-kick (26′). Having broken the ice, Alonso was next to try his luck (27′), but his long-range effort went just wide of the low left corner of the goal.

Both Douglas Costa (34′) and Lewandowski (35′) made attempts on goal, but it was Thomas Müller who was denied a sure goal as the keeper managed to deflect the ball with his leg while in mid-dive (35′).

The half ended with Bayern still looking for a goal, but Juan Bernat (37′) and Alonso (43′) both missed the target with thier long-range shots.
Second half: lacklustre dominance

The half started with Müller shooting well wide from just outside off of the box (50′), but making no mistake minutes later. Müller opened the score (52′) with a generic goal as his long drive from the right wing flew over Roberto and right into the top far corner of the goal.

Olympiacos almost equalized with a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area, but Neuer managed to tip the ball into a corner (56′).

The Bavarians kept pressing and had another good chance as the inexhaustible Müller was denied, this time from short range (68′), by a fast reflex from the goalie.

Bayern was close to concede a goal late on as Salino fired just wide (83′) missing Olympiacos’s greatest chance of the match.
The Reds took no further chances and doubled their lead as Mario Götze went past two Olympiacos defenders, before smashing it in the far corner (89′).

Müller closed the scoreline at 3:0 for Bayern (92′) as he coolly took his penalty shot as a result of Kingsley Coman being taken down in the box (91′).

The Bavarians had a excellent group debut and sit comfortably atop the group table after only the first match.
